WestJet Airlines proposed short-haul carrier to charge less than Air Canada

WestJet Airlines flights serving North American destinations have surprise in store for air travelers. The airline is planning to launch a short-haul carrier in Canada giving its rival Air Canada some really tough times.

WestJet Airlines recently announced the short-haul carrier it is aiming to launch is expected to charge nearly one-third less than what is being currently charged by its chief rival Air Canada for last minute travel.

Travel experts are considering the latest decision of the airline as a boldest one ever since it was launched 16 years ago.

Earlier, Canada’s second biggest carrier WestJet Airlines had disclosed in February this year that it will be launching a new regional carrier to specifically serve smaller towns and cities in Canada.

Some of the smaller towns and cities are currently being served by Air Canada, which charges higher fares for short distances.

Gregg Saretsky, CEO of WestJet Airlines, said that its last minute, walk-up fares are at least 30 percent lower than what Air Canada presently charges.
