Cheap Flights to Kingston

Apr 02, 2012

Kingston, Jamaica is the cultural hub of Jamaican life and has one of the largest English-speaking populations in the West Indies. Home to roughly 700,000 people, Kingston is a great place to escape the more tourist driven towns on the island of Negril, Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. There are always a wide variety of cheap flights to Kingston available despite the somewhat poor reputation of the city.  The ghettos of Kingston are known to be poor and crime ridden so stick to the major sites and safer areas.

Due to its ideal location in the Caribbean, Kingston experiences great weather throughout the year and there are always cheap tickets available. However, you must book your airline tickets in advance during the peak tourist season in order to secure cheap flights. December through April is the most popular time to travel to Kingston and Jamaica as many people are looking to escape the winter blues. The tourist season usually peaks around Christmas and New Years and cheap tickets to Kingston can be hard to come by.

The fall and summer months are the most affordable time to travel to this urban metropolis. Since the weather tends to be hotter in the summer, flights are less booked. Visitors will be able to find better deals on accommodation as well, sometimes up to 60% cheaper than the high season rates. If you don’t mind the heat, book your flights to Kingston during the summer. All flights land at the Norman Manley Airport in Kingston, which is right outside of this popular destination.

In addition to venturing off to other parts of Jamaica during your Kingston holiday, there are numerous attractions and sites to be seen within the city. There are a great many historical sites to discover which outline Jamaica’s unique and troubled history. Devon House is a must-see with your cheap tickets to Kingston. This restored 19th century mansion is a spectacular site that affords visitors with a glimpse into the past. It is decorated with many furnishings, works of art and treasures from the colonial period and is open for tours. Visitors will enjoy the décor and history this national monument house holds.

The Bob Marley Museum is also a must-see attraction when you book your cheap flights. The entire museum is dedicated to the reggae legend and music aficionados will appreciate the many exhibits and memorabilia housed here. The museum is situated in a former residence of Marley and visitors are able to go on guided tours. Anyone who enjoys reggae music will appreciate learning about his history and music. The National Gallery is another museum that should be added to your itinerary. It features a variety of the island’s best artists and is in close proximity to the African-Caribbean Heritage Center, National Library and the Natural History Museum.

Although the majority of Jamaica offers all-inclusive resorts and beach getaways, Kingston is a unique city to learn about the culture and history of the island. Be sure to include Kingston on your itinerary then next time you book flights to this Caribbean nation!
