Success of business class ‘Mint’ prompt JetBlue to expand service

The success of JetBlue Airways’ business class service ‘Mint’ has been astounding. The quality service coupled with low fares have not only forced legacy carriers to lower airfares, but even prompted JetBlue to expand its offering launched since 2014.

Media reports said that Mint’s success has been unparalleled. New York-based JetBlue Airways is now actively planning and on the verge of expanding its transcontinental business class service and raring to take it to four new markets over a period of next two or more years. The reports have however not said how much impact the Mint service would have on the wider U.S. aviation landscape.

The customers booking business class tickets for travel in JetBlue Airways’ Mint cabin are offered a total of 16 lie-flat seats, which can be converted to 80-inch-long bed. Four of these seats are exclusive with doors for added privacy. Among other amenities offered in Mint class include signature cocktails, 15-inch touchscreen TVs and amenity kits.

JetBlue Airways first launched the business class ‘Mint’ service in 2014 and initially started operating flights on New York JFK-San Francisco and New York JFK-Los Angeles routes. JetBlue Airways launched the service to compete with United Airlines and Delta Air Lines’ business class, and American Airlines’ first and business class service.

The airline has never looked back since. JetBlue Airways also launched Mint service on Boston route as well in March 2016. The airline has also announced it will be introducing Mint service on Boston-Los Angeles route starting from October 20, 2016. Apart from this, the Mint service is also being currently offered by the airline on weekly flights services from Boston and New York to Aruba and Barbados. There are also plans to further expand the premium Mint service to St. Maarten and St. Lucia in the fall as well.
