People wait anxiously for the launch of Erie-Chicago flights

by amit.uniyal 27. February 2014 06:10

Before the economic recession hit the world, shattering a million dreams, Erie enjoyed a well-connected air network with several cities within the United States. Four primary airlines operated service to and from the city to destinations like Cleveland, Detroit, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and Atlanta. The scenario however, changed completely after the global economy was left crippled by the economic slowdown. Eight years after the devastating situation, Erie has something to cheer about in the coming times.

United Airlines has announced the launch of its nonstop service between its hub in Chicago and Erie. The new flights are set to debut on June 5 this year. This news has spread a wave of joy amongst the travelers who have waited patiently all these years to relish smooth connections from their city to other important destinations across the country.

Travelers will soon be able to fly between Erie International Airport and Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. This service will considerably offer smooth connections and reduce the travel time otherwise taken to fly between the city pair.

Direct connections from here to Chicago will also boost the prospects of local business in the city. Nonstop flights are an added advantage when it comes to commercial and financial aspects. The city of Erie is sure to benefit from this service and the people cannot stop thanking the airline enough for its initiative.

Chicago is a popular world city and offers flights to other gateways across the country and the world. Apart from other airlines, United Airlines alone provides 600 daily flights from the city to various parts of the world thus paving way for smoother connections ahead.

Delta overhauling its frequent flier program

by amit.uniyal 26. February 2014 09:22

Delta Air Lines is all set to make amends to its frequent flier program. The Atlanta, Georgia based airline now intends to reward those travelers who buy its expensive tickets rather than rewarding the ones flying the most miles with it. This new change will completely alter the basis of its rewards programs.

The airline is a popular carrier that flies to approximately 250 cities across the globe. Its fleet of about 737 aircrafts embarks on both short and long distance journeys on the domestic as well as international sectors each day. It is a popular choice with the local and international passengers and is famous for offering distinctive services onboard. Passengers prefer to book with the airline for various reasons including its reward program.

However, its decision to alter the very basis of the program may end up disappointing its frequent fliers. In addition, every other airline will be keeping a tab on its movements and the after effects of its decision once implemented. It however, is positive about the changes and believes that the 2015 SkyMiles program will woo business class travelers and help it get recognition for its innovative decision. It is also upbeat about the leisure travelers who do not mind splurging on luxury.

Interestingly, this is not the first time it has surprised all. Earlier in January 2013, the airline announced that only travelers who spend at least $2,500 in 2014 would qualify for the elite status. Previously, it allowed them to qualify based on the miles flown. It would be amusing to watch the impacts of its latest decision on the overall aviation industry in the country.

CNN Predicts Pilot Shortage Due To Increased Air Travel Demand

by amit.uniyal 25. February 2014 04:13

As per the latest CNN report Asia Pacific aviation industry is going to boom by 35 percent in the coming two decades and this boom is going to come with a greater BOOM as it predicts huge pilot shortage.

If these predictions come true, then air travel industry is in for serious trouble. In order to curb the air travel demand Asia Pacific aviation industry will have to add nearly 13000 aircrafts. This directly means that the demand of pilots is also going to shoot up manifolds. With this comes the mother of all questions. Do we have enough pilots to fly these aircrafts and the answer is a big NO.

Bony Sharma, vice president of Mil-Com Aerospace Group, a Singapore-based aviation training company said there are nearly 100 pilot training schools in the Asia Pacific region. And they are not sufficient to churn out the number of pilots the aviation industry is looking out for. Even if another 100  flying schools getstarted, the situation will still be as acute as it is now.

Randy Tinseth, vice president of marketing for Boeing Commercial Airplanes said liaisons and partnership needs to be strived with the Government, airlines and flying schools to come together and come up with a training syllabus that helps the future pilots in their training. He further said we will be able to curb this problem the moment we are able to improve our technology towards offering stimulation based pilot certification training.

Demand for onboard Wi-Fi services benefit companies like Gogo

by amit.uniyal 20. February 2014 06:14

The airline industry across the world is doing good business. At present over one million commercial airlines, offer flights to different destinations worldwide every year. Within the United States, itself about 87,000 flights ply on several routes every single day. These flights include commercial passenger service airlines, private jets, as well as air taxis. The number of rising demands is good news for these airlines that are set to do good business this year.

With the rising number of passenger demand, the requirement for onboard services including Wi-Fi, music, and videos too sharpens. Passengers booking airline tickets worldwide prefer to book with the ones that are innovative for the satisfaction of their customers. Currently, Gogo, a pioneer in offering onboard internet services is in high demand. More and more commercial airlines are turning towards the company in order to benefit from its services. The company was born out a business idea in one of the barbecue restaurants in the state of Texas.

It was however, noticed in 2008 after it aggressively launched different Internet schemes on various commercial airlines. That was just the beginning for it. In June 2013, the minor company launched its IPO and today is one of the leading Internet providers in the sky. Ever since, its shares have witnessed an upward movement of about 24 percent. Companies like Gogo help airlines innovate with their services and experiment with business ideas that at first instance sound bizarre.

Since it played its card at the right time, today it stands amongst the leaders in the business of offering in-flight Wi-Fi. At present, its services are available on more than 2,000 aircrafts. Its business is predominantly spread across North America and it enjoys a large chunk in the market of about 80 percent. Though it has proved its mettle here, it has a lot of scope to penetrate into the unknown segments and make its presence felt.

Airline industry set for happy times ahead in 2014

by amit.uniyal 19. February 2014 21:44

There is good news for the global airline industry. Going by the facts, figures, and even performances in the bygone year, the industry should expect happy times ahead in this year. However, two prime factors to be credited for the joyous news include mounting travel demand and steady fuel prices.

Though the news is happy for the airline management, top-level executives, investors, and shareholders only time will tell as to who will ultimately benefit in the end. It is not even evident as when will these profits be passed down.

On the other side, the airlines may even go ahead and decide to cut down fare prices. Passengers should hope for the best and pray that the airlines take a few decisions in their favor. Another, good news is that analysts expect the big players not to fiddle much with the fare pricing owing to still and steady competition from the budget carriers. The constant pressures on big daddies of the open skies will be forced to keep the thought of hiking the fares at bay, at least this year!

This year passengers should stop bothering about price rise on airline tickets and plan that much awaited holiday with their loved ones anywhere in the world. Some experts even suggest that airlines will rather invest in the comforts of the passengers. They are set to divert their energies into refurbishing the existing seats by making them more spacious, enhancing the entertainment options, and innovating their onboard menus.

All these factors will count in their favor and the major airlines around the world will together accumulate profits of $19.7 billion in 2014, exceeding their previous high of $19.2 billion in 2010.
