Turkish Airlines recently announced that there has been a significant growth in terms of passenger traffic, which has increased to 2.1 million in January this year. This accounts for a total of 6.3 percent growth.

If compared to the figures of 2010 then there is a growth of 29 million passengers thus accounting for the growth of 16 percent from the past years. There was a decrease in the load factor that fell to 67.3 percent making a total fall of 1.5 percent in the last month. There was an increase in the freight dispatch of 26.1 tons by 23 percent this January.

Turkey holds a stake of 49 percent in its national carrier. The flag carrier is aiming to expand its fleet to grab the market shares in new destinations such as Europe and Middle East.

Cemal Demirtas, the senior analyst at the Oyak Securities said,” Despite the further slowdown in the pace of passenger growth in January, we believe that the company will better utilize its fleet while flying to new destinations in the rest of 2011."
