Media reports recently said that Philippine Airlines flights account for a total of 20 percent domestic traffic in the Philippines.
The reports said that the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) of Philippines conducted a study and indicated that the domestic air passenger traffic increased 9.6 percent to 20.57 million in the year 2012.
According to CAB, Philippine Airlines alone accounted for a total of 20 percent of domestic traffic.
However, a low-cost Filipino carrier Cebu Pacific with a total of 46 percent garnered the biggest market share in terms of domestic passenger traffic. The airline increased its domestic passengers to 9.48 million in 2012, from 8.48 million in 2011.
The CAB report said that AirPhil Express, a low-cost subsidiary of Philippine Airlines, gained a total of 21.9 percent market share in domestic air travel. AirPhil Express will soon be renamed as PAL Express.
