KLM, flag carrier airline of the Netherlands will now be charging passengers for checked-in baggage. In a press announcement the airline said, that it will soon be charging its short-haul passengers a fee of €15 when payment is made in advance or €30 when payment is made at the airport for every piece of baggage checked-in.
The airlines also said that it will not be passing the burden on passengers taking long-haul international flights. The airlines will also not levy any kind of charges on hand luggage and to passengers flying under KLM’s Flying Blue loyalty scheme.
The airlines will also impose strict rules on its hand baggage policy. Under this the size of the hand baggage must not increase beyond 55x25x35 cm or weigh more that 12 kgs. If any one of the two conditions is not met then the airlines will be charging the passenger with an additional €30 at the gate.
The new rule will come into existence for flights booked on or after April 22, 2013. Hence passengers interested in saving to some quick buck should go ahead and make the booking on KLM airlines before April 22.
