United Airlines has added a new feather to its cap. The commercial
airline of the United States has become the first airline in the world
to take to the skies using the advanced Split Scimitar Winglets. The
airline’s first flight with the brand new winglets departed from Houston
for its maiden flight to Los Angeles recently.
The airline operated the Boeing 737-824 N37277 aircraft between the city
pair sporting its latest possessions. These winglets use the latest
technology. The airline was earlier granted the approval by the FAA to
put these winglets in use on its Boeing 737-800 series planes. It is a
moment of pride and happiness for the entire management and the team
that worked hard to achieve this fleat.
The Chicago, Illinois based airline flies to over 370 destinations
worldwide. It is a popular name in the domestic as well as international
aviation industry. Renowned for its innovation, the airline has won
several accolades for using the technology to the best of its capacity.
Currently, the airline has fitted about 350 aircrafts with these
technically advanced winglets. The airline is in the process of wrapping
up the installation of these winglets on its 737, 757, and 767 series
planes. It then expects to save about 65 million gallons of fuel on a
yearly basis, courtesy the newly fitted winglets. This will help the
airline become one of the most environment friendly airlines in the
United States. It intends to save a total of $1 billion in fuel costs by
the end of 2017 thanks to the latest technology.
