British Airways cabin crew may hold third strike

by 22. June 2010 10:04
Another strike may be on the cards for British Airways as its disgruntled cabin crew plan a third round of industrial action.

Unite members, who finished a round of strikes earlier this month, are reportedly set to conduct a fresh ballot with 11,000 members.

According to The Guardian, the trade union has already completed preparations for the vote and could be notifying the carrier today, meaning voting will begin next week.

Strike action will start as soon as 3 August if it is voted through by members, coinciding with the peak summer holiday season, and spelling bad news for BA, which suffered a 14.2 percent dip in passenger numbers in May.

However, a BA spokesperson told e-Travel Blackboard this morning that nothing had been confirmed as yet and that BA and Unite are still in discussion.

BA cabin crews are fighting for a reinstatement of travel perks, which the carrier cut after walkouts in March.

In a recent letter to members, the joint general secretaries of Unite Tony Woodley and Derek Simpson accused the carrier of being “vindictive” in its disciplinary measures.
