Turkey’s national flag carrier Turkish Airlines recently announced it is adding the Red Sea resorts of Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada as its newest destinations in Egypt.
Mohamed Durmaz, Turkish Airlines’ General Manager, said that Egypt is not a new destination for the airline as Turkish Airlines flights are being operated to Cairo since 1980.
He said that the airline’s first expansion in Egypt started in 2012 with the addition of Alexandria. This was followed by the addition of Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada on October 9 and 17 respectively.
Regarding the new flights services to Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh, Durmaz said that the airline expects to have a significant impact on its revenues with the launch of new flights in the prominent Red Sea cities. He said that the airline hopes to attract tourists in a big way to fly with it from different parts of the world.
