As per a recent report long-haul passengers with more than 5 hours of flying time prefer Premium Economy flights over Economy or Business Class. Placed in-between business and economy, premium economy class offers more comforts than economy but id far cheaper than business class, hence it has over the period of time become the first choice of passengers.
Understanding this change in choice many international airlines like Turkish airlines, Virgin Atlantic, Air France, British Airways etc have started offering Premium Economy flights on their long-haul flights. Virgin Atlantic has recently introduced this class on its Delhi-New York and Delhi-London route. The airline is already flying Premium Economy flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Boston, Miami, Chicago and Washington.
Recently Cathy Pacific has introduced Premium Economy Class on its Hong Kong-Delhi route. The airlines General Manager Middle East, Africa and South Asia, Tom Wright said that the airline is delighted to introduce 28 seats in premium class on its Airbus A-330 aircraft. He said that though this product is new to the company, but they can foresee the great amount of potential this sector has and hence, they be introducing Premium class on their other routes very soon. He said Premium Economy offers passengers to fly at a lesser price but with better amenities and comforts.
King said, “Premium Economy is available to all our connections from Delhi and Mumbai, which beyond daily London and NY flights includes Boston, Washington, Miami and, in the summer, Chicago as well across our global network. Our Premium Economy constitutes 18 per cent of the cabin. That’s over 3000 seats a month in Premium Economy.” he added.
