Even after Caribbean Airlines has assumed responsibility for operating Air Jamaica flights and also the right to use the Air Jamaica brand name in 2010, Jamaicans simply refuse to let go their sentiments still attached with the name Air Jamaica.
Caribbean Airlines in a statement said that Jamaicans are still not ready to transfer their sentiments about Air Jamaica even though it ceases to exist since its takeover in 2010.
Jamaicans are also miffed over the decision of Caribbean Airlines over reducing its flights to Jamaica. It has also been alleged that since Air Jamaica’s takeover, Caribbean Airlines is trying to lay off pilots formerly employed with Air Jamaica.
The Jamaican government is a minor stakeholder in Caribbean Airlines. Trinidad and Tobago’s Transport Minister Dr Omar Davies said that he is ready to hold talks with Jamaican government to discuss Caribbean Airlines’ plans and actions.
Dr Davies said that those who still hold to the sentiments about Air Jamaica should consider flying with Fly Jamaica Airways started by Caribbean Airlines. Fly Jamaica Airways is currently offering four times weekly flights to New York JFK.
