TAM Airlines announced its decision to terminate service on London
Heathrow-Rio de Janeiro route. Flights will cease to fly to the
Brazilian city from March. The news has disappointed hundreds of
passengers who book their tickets with the airline to fly on this
sector.
The airline however, assured the passengers to commence operations for a
brief period during the summer months to cater to the heavy traffic for
football World Cup in the country. At present, the airline uses the
services of Boeing 767-300ER between the city pairs. Currently it flies
on thrice-a-week basis from the British Capital to the Brazilian city.
As per the reports, the service will be terminated from March 17, 2014.
Passengers will not be able to fly with their favorite airline post
March 17. However, the service will reopen for a brief period between
June 3 and July 19. This is the time, when football fans from across the
globe will throng the country to catch their heroes’ battle it out on
the ground for the coveted title.
The airline, which is a part of the LAMTAM group will however,
continue to operate daily flights between London Heathrow and Sao Paulo.
The airline believes that London-Rio sector has not been able to
generate expected demand thus influencing its profits. This is one of
the prominent reasons for the airline to discontinue its operations
between these cities. Some passengers are hugely saddened while some
think it is ultimately the airline’s decision to operate as per its own
rules and regulations.
