Gulf Air flight service to Beirut suspended

Gulf Air recently announced the temporary suspension of flights to and from Beirut until 25th March 2011 due to the ongoing regional situation and reduction in passenger traffic.

The airline will re-issue the tickets on the later flights without any additional charge to the passengers with confirmed tickets on the suspension dates. The new tickets, which will be valid for the travel period until 31st May 2011, will be issued on the same booking class to the same destination.

The passengers can ask for the refunding of tickets if the travel dates do not suit them. The airline previously suspended flights to and from Iran and Iraq until 31st March 2011 as well as Alexandria until 6th June 2011.

Lufthansa resumes its flight service to Tokyo

In a statement the German flagship carrier Lufthansa said that it will resume its flight service to Tokyo from 24th March 2011, which was suspended due to the disastrous earthquake and tsunami that hit the city couple of weeks back.

The airline in its previous statement said that it will divert its Tokyo flight service to Osaka and Nagoya till 27th March 2011. The airline will operate its A340 aircraft to Tokyo from Frankfurt and Munich.

The airline said that it has been carefully monitoring the current development in Japan and is also in touch with the aviation authorities regarding the latest updates.

United Continental to increase the Wi-Fi facility onboard

United Continental Holdings, the alliance of United and Continental Airlines, recently announced that it will soon install Wi-Fi internet facility on its 200 domestic Continental carriers. The company is also seeking out ways to further expand the facility over its international routes.

At present United Airlines has been providing the in-flight internet service over its 14 aircrafts, which includes the flights that operate over New York-Los Angeles-San Francisco routes.

Jeff Smisek, CEO United Continental said, “the Chicago-based parent company of United and Continental airlines is also exploring adding international Wi-Fi service and mulling deals with other broadband providers to help wire its fleet of more than 700 jets.”

Gulf Air launches new flight service to Kabul

Gulf Air, principal flag carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, recently launched the four-time weekly service to Kabul. The new flight service will begin from 15th June 2011. With this launch Gulf Air will become the first airline to provide ‘full service scheduled commercial carriers in Middle East’ to operate flights to Kabul.

The airline will operate its A320 aircraft, which will be equipped with 16 Falcon Gold Business Class seats and 120 coach class seats.

The new flights will depart from Bahrain at 11.15 am on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and will arrive at 03.50 pm. The round trip flights will depart from Kabul at 04.50 pm and will arrive in Bahrain at 06.45 pm.

“The launch of the flight service had followed extensive safety and security audits, and is committed to facilitate and promote the development of a dynamic, competitive private sector by closely working in partnership with local businesses to revitalize and expand the economy, ” said, Samer Majali, CEO Gulf Air.

The airline has recently launched other flight services to other destinations such as Addis Ababa, Isfahan, Basra, Milan and Geneva.

New Flight service to Maldives: Etihad Airways

The Abu Dhabi based airlines, Etihad Airways, recently announced the new flight service to Male, the capital city of Maldives, beginning this November. The decision of the airline is, however, subject to government approval.

The airline will operate A320 aircraft, which will be configured with two cabins. The airlines will operate daily return service between Abu Dhabi and Male..
